@jim_thompson5910 This is the question.
another similarity is that they both needed and had sophisticated irrigation systems to water their crops and keep the people hydrated
Yeah i got that one. While i was waiting, i had asked a question in Yahoo answers and someone linked me to a essay. I couldnt read the whole thing, but thats one of the points i got from it. Here are the other ones i found while i was waiting. Similarities 4. Both used symbols in writing 5. Same irrigation system 6. Both were in trading and farming Differences 4. Egyptians invented the calendar and China invented the furnace. I want to get at least 10 points under similarities and differences. I need 4 more similarities and 6 more differences. So if you could help, or if you know someone who could help, that would be so great!
From this page: http://voices.yahoo.com/key-differences-between-ancient-china-its-peer-2010682.html It reads "Surrounded by mountains and deserts in the south, east, and west, China was isolated effectively due to its geography. This type of "quarantine" ensured that Chinese culture would not receive outside influence - unlike in Egypt and Mesopotamia, where power and lifestyles were constantly shifting because of attacking neighbors. Thus, the stability of power in ancient China due to the civilization's physical isolation enabled the culture to survive for 4,000 years: far longer than any other civilization." basically it's saying that because China was isolated in a way (due to the mountains), it was able to maintain and preserve it's culture for far longer than the Egyptians. Also, much of the power stayed close to China as compared to Egypt where power shifted constantly and it was more spread out (I think the ancient Greeks even had a hand in ruling Egypt at one point and that's just one indication of how spread out the rein was over time)
There are also other differences listed on that page
and here's a page with a venn diagram http://www.kgcs.k12.va.us/instruction/SS%20Social%20Studies%20Gr2_PDFs/Ancient%20China%20and%20Egypt%20Session%2010-%20Review%20of%20Ancient%20China%20and%20Egypt.pdf
Thanks so much! :) Did you find any more similarities? Its ok if you cant. :) You've helped a lot.
Both built massive (and I mean massive) monuments that are instantly recognizeable and they inspire fear and awe in anyone who sees them eg: The Ancient Egyptians built the great pyramids (one of which was one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world -- The Great Pyramid of Giza) The Ancient Chinese built the great wall of china I can't think of anything else grand that they built, but I'm betting they both built other great big projects for the ancient world to marvel at.
Also, the two civilizations had some influence over the development of mathematics (eg: Egyptians wrote the Rind Papyrus and a Chinese mathematician wrote "the nine chapters", which is basically a book on solved math problems)
Thanks sooo much!!!! Alright. Now im gonna see if i can figure out 2 more similarities. Thanks again for the help :)
both are historically significant to early civilization and they both show us how civilizations formed over time
Oh my god. You are amazing.
