how to solve the following problem

OpenStudy (safari321):

\[\frac{ 2 }{ 35}=\frac{ y +1 }{ 112 }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Cross multiplication. \[\frac{ 2 }{ 35 } = \frac{ y+1 }{ 112 } \] \frac{ 2 }{ 35 } = \frac{ y+1 }{ 112 }\[2*112 = 35(y+1)\] \[224 = 35y + 35\] Can you solve that?

OpenStudy (safari321):

oh so you add 35 plus 35 and will it be 224=70y or will it stay in the form you did it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Almost, but the second 35 has no y, which means we only have the 35y \[224=35y+35\] \[224 -35 = 189 = 35y\] \[\frac{189}{35} = y = 5.4\]

OpenStudy (safari321):

Thank you a bunch
