which function represents a translation of the graph y=x^2 by 10 units to the left? I know it would be [y=x^2+10] but last time there was a parentheses [y=(x+10)^2]...which one would it be? Thanks btw

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

ok... so y = x^2 the x^2 is a perfect square as the parabola only contacts the x-axis at x = 0, so the root is x = 0 so you need a perfect square that has a root at x = -10

OpenStudy (sirm3d):

when translating a graph horizontally, replace every x in the expression by \[(x-a)\] where a is positive (negative) when translating to the right (left)
