Doing SAT Prep and this is one of my questions: (x+7)/2 + (2x-8)/2 = -4 I think I'm doing something wrong. I typed it in on Wolfram Alpha and it gave me something that wasn't in my choices. My choices are: x = -3 & 2/7 x = -7 & 2/3 x = 1 & 6/7 x = -1 I think it's -1 but it doesn't give me a true statement (although I might be doing it incorrectly) PlEASE HELP!! Show work, please. I want to see where I messed up.

are those mixed numbers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmmm...did you get x=-7/3 when you solved by hand?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah that's what I got but it's not an answer choice :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmmm...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

did you plug in all the answers to see if any work?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

doing that right now!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I figured it out :) After 20 times of doing it haha, thanks for the help anyways :)
