The range of the function 1/x is all y such that y is not 0. Do you see that when you draw it (or think about it, algebraically)? If so, great! The given function is the same as y = 1/x, except shifted 2 units to the left and 1 unit down (do you see why?). So, the horizontal asymptote is shifted 1 unit down - the new asymptote is y = -1. Therefore, all y except -1 occur in the range. Choice A is the answer.
