One pound of gummy bears costs $2.20. How much does 1.6 pounds cost?

OpenStudy (aripotta):

what's 1.6 times 2.2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

one pound is 2.20. 1.6=? divide 2.20 by 2 to get half a pund then add that total with 2.20.

OpenStudy (aripotta):

what? all you have to do is multiply 1.6 and 2.2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

shes trying to find out how much 1.6 pounds of gummy bears would cost,

OpenStudy (aripotta):

yes...so multiply 1.6 and 2.2...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what would be the answer?

OpenStudy (aripotta):

$3.52

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You could set up a ratio... so \[2.20/1 \] and \[x/1.60\] then cross multiply. \[2.20 * 1.60 = 1x\] \[x=3.52\] Just an explanation for the previous solution. :]
