OpenStudy (anonymous):
bryophytes are considered as amphibians of plant kingdom. it is suggested that they originated from algal like aquatic ancestors and led the evolution of land plants. The gametophyte here helps in aerial spreading of spores for the next life cycle. At the same time gametophyte is characterized by adaptation process called 'dessication, which helps the plants to recover immediately in dry conditions. please share if there are more accurate answers
