Question

In what ways could I rearrange the circuit shown if a battery was connected across AB? I want to calculate total resistance but I'm not sure if R5 belongs to R1 and R3 or R2 and R4 in terms of parallel branches.

R5 is parallel to R2+R4

That is to say R5 is parallel to the resultant of R2 and R4 (R2 and R4 being in series)
