Solve for x. in comments...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6 over x = x over 12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

possible answers... 36 72 \[2\sqrt{6}\] \[6\sqrt{2}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't understand how to do the x * x I understand to cross multiply 6 and 12 to get 72 but thats it...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{ 6 }{ x } = \frac{ x }{ 12}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

also how do you get a geometric mean? I partially understand it but my lessons arn't very detailed :L

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right! So cross multiply: You get 6 * 12 and x * x 6 * 12 = 72 x * x = x^2 x^2 = 72 You have to find the largest perfect square that goes into 72 to find x. 36 is a perfect square. Multiply 36 by 2 to get 72. sqrt 36 is 6. So 6 √2
