factor the expression...2x^8+4x^7-6x^6+4x^5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When factoring, always look for a GCF 1st

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is there a GCF here? If so, what is it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Brittni0605

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Your GCF is 2x^5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 2x^5(x^3+2x^2-3x+2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhhh, ok that makes sense...I will practice working more of these with this example Thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry for my absence, but @p505 is correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no problem...I know how to work them with out numbers in front of the x's but not this way...thank you both

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Np.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you tell me the greatest factor out of 8x^3, 48^2, 8x, and 48, Im trying another one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I thought it might be 8x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then I thought 48...I am unsure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I need + and - signs in the expressions. Please rewrite it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8x^3+48^2+8x+48

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is 48x^2 or just 48^2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry it is 48x^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Brittni0605

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohh, ok. Then GCF is 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

great...I kind of thought so..thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Np.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok I need your help...I tried working it out and I got completely lost and confused I came up with 8x(x^2+48x+8+48...this isnt correct is it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, it isnt correct. The GCF is 8 not 8x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok let me try it again

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There isnt an x in every term so no matter what your GCF cant have an x in it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8(x^3+48x+x+48)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I still think it's wrong though
