The volume in cubic feet of a box can be expressed as V(x) = x^3 - 6x^2 + 8x, or as the product of three linear factors with integer coefficients. The width of the box is 2 – x.
Factor the polynomial to find linear expressions for the height and the width.

please show steps heres what i have so far
x^3 - 6x^2 +8x
x(x^2 -6x + 8)
x(2 - x)(???)

What is x^3 - 6x^2 + 8x divided by (2-x) then factor what is left.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i dont know how to factor

i have no idea lol

Actually, long division shouldn't be necessary, after factoring out the x, the quadratic is factorable.

Find factors of 8 that add to make -6.

4 an 2
OpenStudy (anonymous):
now i know the step its x(2 -x)(4 - x)

I think you're done... you have three expressions... x.... 2-x.... and 4-x
Width is given as "2 - x"
So length and height are x and 4 - x
