ok so if i understand correctly: 
a) you just draw tetrahedrons where in case of diamond all atoms are C atoms and in quartz central atom is Si and other atoms are O
b) SiO2 is very abundant compound and diamond is rare, diamond is hardest known material etc. so there is the difference in price
c) artificial diamonds or WC (wolfram carbide) or some other hard ceramics...
