Can someone explain Greatest Common Factor with Polynomials to me?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To find the greatest common factor of a polynomial, we take the greatest common factor from the coefficients of all the terms of the polynomial and then we take the greatest common factor from all the variables in the polynomial. [ Then we multiply these two to get the greatest common factor of the polynomial.
