Wouldn't it be a -14?
My parents say -20?

in order to get the ? on it 's own, you have to preform the opposite function to it, that it already being preformed. currently the 17 is being added, so the opposite of addition is subtraction, so you must subtract 17 from both sides to get ? on it's own.
