log(x)+log(x+2)=2

myininaya (myininaya):

log(a)+log(b)=log(ab)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is there any way you can help me solve the problem?

myininaya (myininaya):

Yep. I just gave you a hint. Use that hint on the left hand side.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so I tried using that formula but the answer is a huge number.

myininaya (myininaya):

So you did log(x(x+2))=2 because that is what I asked you to do.

myininaya (myininaya):

Then base 10 on both sides so you can undo that log on that one side.

myininaya (myininaya):

\[10^{\log(x(x+2))}=10^2 \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i did that and from there I get X^2+2x=10^2 which becomes x^2+2x-100?

myininaya (myininaya):

Solve for x and see if both solutions will work.
