i need help with equation of parallel lines, i forgot how to do it from freshman year last year

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Parallel lines have the same slope but different y-intercepts.

Here is another site that shows what is alternate interior, and so on http://www.mathsisfun.com/geometry/alternate-interior-angles.html

line AB contains points (-2, 1) and (-1,-8). What is the equation of the line parallel (0, 2)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First, you have to find the slope using the two points. Which is (-8-1)/(-1--2) which equals -9. So, you can start forming your equation: y=-9x +b. Then, plug the point into the equation. So 2=-9(0) +b. Therefore, b=2 and your equation is y=-9x+2.
