(2x-y=9) (4x-2y=11)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Simple question, what are the slopes of the two lines you have there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2x n 4x?

OpenStudy (radar):

The slope in both are the coefficient of x when equations are in the slope intercept form.

OpenStudy (radar):

2x-y=9 or y=2x + 9 slope is 2 as it is for the second equation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks radar

OpenStudy (radar):

Wait a minute, i erred y=2x-9.

OpenStudy (radar):

slope is still 2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is ok

OpenStudy (radar):

2nd equation 4x-2y=11 2y=4x-11 y=2x - 11/2 slope is 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for the 2x would it be y=2x-9?

OpenStudy (radar):

Yes

OpenStudy (radar):

both equations have equal slope m or m=2, thus the two lines are parallel. I digress lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha was trying to follow aexample inthe book haha still not making any senseto me tho (hate college algebra:)

OpenStudy (radar):

It takes practice. good luck with it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@sassyst12 Just to make sure, do you see why finding that both equations have the same slope is important to trying to solve the system of equations?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my only question is how he got it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, just making sure, because the answer to being given (2x-y=9) (4x-2y=11) is not that they both have the same slopes, though the fact that they do will determine your answer...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, you understand what the answer is .... or Ok, I thought that the two slopes was the answer?
