jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Can you use synthetic division to divide \[\Large \frac{x^4+4x+9}{x^3+12}\] ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't think so since x has an exponent. Is that when you can't use synthetic division?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yes, you can only use synthetic division when you're dividing by something of the form x-k where k is some constant number.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so you can't use synthetic division to divide by x^3+12

Ok, thanks for helping me understand. :)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

sure thing
