What is the equation of the line passing through (8, –6) and perpendicular to the line y = x – 2 in slope-intercept form?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The only thing I'm having trouble with is figuring out what the reciprocal of x is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You want the negative reciprocal actually. Perpendicular: \[\frac{ -1 }{ m }\] So in this case m = x.

8?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know it's supposed to be negative, which isn't what threw me off. It's that I don't know the reciprocal of 1 ;p
