the movements of energy and nutrients through living systems are different because

reproduction and a new life is also genrate by one living thing to next

Nutrients cycle through ecosystems because the earth is a closed system with regards to nutrients. So, we don't get any new input of carbon, nitrogen, water, etc. (except for some minimal input from meteors). Energy, however, does not cycle - it flows. This is because every time energy changes form (like from radiant to chemical or goes from one organism to the next), the transfer is not very efficient. Only about 10% actually makes it to the next stage. The rest is lost as entropy. This means that we need a continual input of energy, which we get from the sun. With regards to energy, then, the earth is an open system.

simply put Energy flows in one direction and nutrients recycle.
