How do i find the area of the base?

OpenStudy (radar):

The area of a pentagonal base is given by: A=1/2 * a * 5 * s where a is apothem length s = side and h = height

OpenStudy (radar):

In your diagram a=k and h=6 and if I read it correct the side is 4 (1/5 the perimeter).

OpenStudy (radar):

Note the area is similar to the formula for 5 triangles.

OpenStudy (radar):

There would be two base area and 5 side areas. the side area is 4*6 =24 sq .in and there are 5 sides are 120 sq in. for the sides. The numerical base area needs the value of k to calculate.

OpenStudy (radar):

Good luck with it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Since the Perimeter is given, side s = 20/5 = 4 in => Area A = 4^2 * 5 / 4 tan ( pi/5) = ...
