Perform the indicated computation. Write the answer in scientific notation. A. 8 x 10^2 B. 4 x 10^6 C. 4 x 10^2 D. 8 x 10^6
Since in scientific notation the base is always 10, you can perform arithmetic on the coefficient (12 and 3 in this case) and then the base number 10. 12/3 = 4 10^4/10^-2 = 10^6 (when dividing exponential numbers with the same base, you keep the base and subtract the exponents) so 4 - (-2) = 6 the answer is 4 x 10^6
