.-.
should i put the second equation as 0.45x + 0.1y = 10.35??
@phi ? do you know this?
I assume the 1st solution is 55% bromine and 45% water the 2nd sol is 10% bromine and 90% water
so...the second equation is 0.55x + 0.1y = 10.35?
Let's just track the water call 1st solution x and the 2nd y x+y= 30 amount of water is 0.45x + 0.9y = 0.345*30
don't give me the answerrrr
oh D:
erase ittttt pl0x
so tempted to looooook
ok, thanks :)
I'll write it in a simple way
so...the second equation is 0.55x + 0.1y = 10.35? I think you are mixing up the water with the bromine here
urgh
45x + .10(30 - x) = .345 * 30 45x + 300 - 10x = 1035 35x = 735 x = 21
I interpret 34.5% water/ bromine to mean 34.5% water and 65.5% bromine
oh ok
lol stahp ineed
D: I must help to get my score up
Don't look at the chat
ok. x + y = 30 0.45x + 0.9y = 10,35?
10.35*
Yes sir
phiiiiiiiiii
are you sure?
and i'm a girl :)
Mhmmm I am and im a boy
and boys are way smarter then girls (: lol im just kidding
I GET A NEGATIVE NUMBER. we did something wrong :l
Liters of 45% water solution—x: 0.55x + 0.1(30 - x) = 0.345(30) 0.55x + 3 - 0.1x = 10.35 0.45x = 7.35 x = 735/45 or 147/9 or 16 1/3 Liters of 10% bromine solution: = 30 - 147/9 = (270 - 147)/9 = 123/9 or 41/3 or 13 2/3?
IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW THE ANSWER DON'T READ ANY FURTHER Answer: 45% water solution, 16 1/3 liters; 10% bromine solution, 13 2/3 liters
x + y = 30 0.45x + 0.9y = 10.35 x = 30 - y 0.45(30 - y) + 0.9y = 10.35 13.5 - 0.45y + 0.9y = 10.36 13.5 + 0.45y = 10.35 0.45y = -3.15 y = -7...
Hmmm -7 I don't get that
If we really start with 45% water and 90% water, we can never get lower than 45% or higher than 90% water Is there a typo in the original question?
no there isn't. i copy/pasted directly
then how'd i get -7?? what did i do wrong?
please help.
If we assume the question meant 10% water in the 2nd solution you can solve 0.45x + 0.10y = 0.345*30 If that gives the answer in the book, I think you are a victim of a typo
it doesn't give me an answer
see, that's exactly what it says?
I would send a note to the teacher about this problem, and ask for extra credit for finding a bogus question.
send your teacher an emaill
the only other way to interpret it so it makes sense is that 34.5% water/bromine means the solution is 34.5% bromine and 65.5% water. Could that be what they mean?
even if it is 34.5%, i'd still get -7? that's how i worked the problem
that would give 0.45x + 0.9y = 0.655*30
oh wait. sorry lol. misread
but it says water/bromine
Yes it does say water/bromine but interpreting that to mean 34.5% water leads to no solution... It is possible they mean 34.5% bromine... and at least this will give a result.
:/ ok. lemme work this one out then
Well I am confused at this point just try to do it If I come up with an idea I'll reply
y = 13.67?
x = 16.33?
yes
ok, thanks! on to the next one!
Q4 makes sense. notice that the cost per foot that they want is in between the cost of maple and the cost of pine.
wait, wait. i haven't tried it yet
You can expect the answer to be mostly maple
y = 3 x = 9?
sorry it took so long :/ debate in the chat
is that right? @phi
yes
:) ok thanks
apparently it's supposed to say 10% water, not 10% bromine. i'm mad. i'll tell him.
You could have been more proactive and put in a note concerning the question, pointing out the problem. On the bright side, you seem able to do these problems.
i just resubmitted with it being 10% water (x = 21, y = 9), and i told him in the comment box that there was a typo on the question
