A foal from a rem mother and a white father ,has a roan (light red ) coat. what are the likely genetics behind the foals coloration what makes you think this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please help me !!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what does rem mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh sorry red

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well think of it this way, if you mix a deep red paint with white what happens?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it turns lighter red and if you add to much white it will turn pink

OpenStudy (anonymous):

exactly. but which color is more dominant over the other?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the red because it is the darker one but what would the genetics be

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so just apply that to the question. the mother is red and the father is white. the foal still comes out red so obviously the mother has given the foal the Dominant gene

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok thank you you are awesome !!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the baby received the dominant red gene from it's mother (Rr or RR) but has a white gene from the father. the father's gene's are recessive (ww) see if that helps
