My first TUTORIAL on LONGITUDINAL SOUND WAVES-
\[\Huge{\color{blue}{\text{What is a longitudinal wave-- }}}\] A wave in which the particles of the medium oscillate(vibrate) to and fro about their mean position in the direction of propagation of the wave is called a LONGITUDINAL WAVE.. |dw:1352632732132:dw| Longitudinal waves can be produced in any medium .viz.in solids, liquids and in gases. \[\Large{\color{red}{\text{Graphical representation of longitudinal wave --- }}}\] Longitudinal wave is represented by density-distance graph. In figure , the horizontal line OX represents the normal density of air.All the points above this line represent greater density. In a compression of a longitudinal wave ,the density of the particles is the high. So, here A and C represent compressions. All the points below the line OX represent less density(than normal). In a rarefraction, the density of the particles is less than in the normal. So, here B and D represent rarefractions. |dw:1352633328762:dw|
