How do you solve please help A log is 47 feet long. Fernando wishes to cut the log into two pieces so hat one piece is 5 feet shorter than the other. How long is each piece?

Okay so 47= (x-5)+x where x-5 is the shorter piece and x is the other piece. So now add so 47=2x-5. Now solve for x and plug that back into (x-5) and x to solve.
