An object is acted upon by a force of 22 newtons from the right and a force of 13 newtons from the left. What is the magnitude and direction of the net force?

OpenStudy (arhin):

19 newtons and it is directed to the right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is vectors. Direction matters. Take a direction is positive. That depends on your choice. For example, if you take right as positive, the right force is 22N. The left force is -13N. If you take left as positive, left force is -22N and left force is 13N. Just add them up and in your final answer, always state which direction is the net force and remove any negative signs.
