Can someone please help with this question for my lab report ill become a fan and give a medal!!! :) 2. What are the two elements of meiosis that add variation to our population? (Hint: one occurs in prophase I and the other in metaphase I).
i think it is recombination
There is recombination as dedee correctly states. This occurs through homologous recombination during prophase I and cross overs between homologous chromosomes can take place, resulting in new combinations of alleles on one chromosome. The other is the random assortment of alleles into the daughter cells at metaphase I (where chromosomes line up and divide into each daughter cell). I hope this is clear; for more details there's a good page here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meiosis
Thank You so much so because both of you answered the same thing the first one out of the two of you to repond to this comment ill give the medal and become a fan of ok @dedee and @ebaxter01
never mind im just gonna give it now
