There are nine socks in a drawer, each a different color. In how many ways can you randomly draw 8 of them?

Note that the question is equivalent to "In how many ways can you leave one sock in the drawer" :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Huh?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you take eight of the socks out of the drawer, there will be only one left. So we can calculate either the combinations for the 8 socks we took or the combinations for the single sock we left.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Would it be A. 8/9 B. 1 C. 8 D. 9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The sock left in the drawer can be of any colour. There are nine colours, so there are nine possibilities. Your answer is 9.

oh ok...thanks :)
