angle of 45. A second force of 75 lb acts on the object at an angle
of -30. Find the direction and magnitude of the resultant
force.

To add vectors they must be in rectangular form.
1) break each vector into their rectangular components

an angle of 45 gives you both positive x and y. -30 will have a negative y component
