in the year 2010, there were 200 million land line customers and in 2011, there were 196 million land line customers. in the year 2010 there were 86 million cell phone users, and in 2011 there were 106 million cell phone useres. you also know hat for both land line and cell phone customers the number of customers in linearly related to the year. Question 1: find a linear equation that models the number of land line customers, y(in millions), x years from 2010. Question 2: find a linear equation that models the number of cell phone customers, y (in millions), x years after 2010. QUESTION 3: use the equations from questions 1 & 2 to determine the year in which the number of land line customers and the number of cell phone customers will be the same.
you need to find the slope of the line the change in land line customers decreased by 4 million in one year (from 2010 to 2011) so the slope is \(-4\) if you start counting at 2010 you can write this equation as \[y=-4x+200\]
similarly in that same years cell phone customers increased from 86 to 106 which is an increase of 20 million making the slope of that line \(20\) and the equation would be \[y=20x+86\] if you start counting in 2010
thank you! thank you!!
yw
how would you determine the year in which the number of cell phone customers and land line customers would be the same?
well i got 2014, i sure hope its right, i have to turn this in tomorrow! wish me luck, and thanks for your help!
