geerky42 (geerky42):

Nuala baked 64 cookies for a party. After each party guest ate n cookies, 9 cookies were left uneaten. If there were more than 9 guests at the party, and if n is an integer greater than 1, what is the value of n?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

64=xn with 9 remaining 55=xn

OpenStudy (anonymous):

where x>9 and n>1

geerky42 (geerky42):

So how exactly can I solve this?

geerky42 (geerky42):

@NickR

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well lets say they had 10 ppl so 55/10=n n=5.5 which isnt a whole number so thats not the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

guess and check

geerky42 (geerky42):

Ah ok. I just thought there is some quickest way to solve this problem. Guess not. n = 11

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no x would be 11 giving n=5

geerky42 (geerky42):

oops wrong variable. I know this anyway. Thanks.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no problem
