Why all voltage level are multiples of 11, like 220V, 440V, 1100V instead of 200V, 400V, 1000V?

That's for the US standard I suppose. My country uses the 240V UK standard.(commonwealth countries, you know... lol)

Though I suppose they use the multiples to save headaches over their transformers. Who wants to design a transformer that could change 220V into 1234V, eh? :)
