OpenStudy (aperez):

Which of these lengths could be sides of a triangle? A. 8cm, 12cm, 19cm B.11cm, 8cm, 19cm C.10cm, 12cm, 24cm D.12cm 11cm 24cm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In a triangle, no one side can be greater than or equal to the sum of the other sides.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is b

OpenStudy (aperez):

How so?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hint: it is NOT b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Why do you use Alicia Keys as a display pic?

OpenStudy (aperez):

Okay thanks Tcarroll..Ad I use Alicia Keys as a Display Wallpaper because she is one of my fav. Singers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, for each of the letters a, b, c, and d, take each pair of sides and add them. There should be 3 pairs of sides for each selection. If the sum of each pair is greater than the side left over, you can get a triangle. And it's a good picture.

OpenStudy (aperez):

but don't they suppose to sum up to 180?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's for angles.

OpenStudy (aperez):

Ohh okay Hang on.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A triangle will have 3 angles and 3 sides. We are only concerned about the sides for this question.

OpenStudy (aperez):

Okay umm well I got D for it It is greater.?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In D, 24 > 12 + 11, so D is not the answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1352834835051:dw|That's visually why you can't get a triangle with selection D.

OpenStudy (aperez):

Okay I kind of see what your saying. Hmm I think I'll go with A .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You got it! Good job!

OpenStudy (aperez):

Because it is's Less right? Umm well Thank you for Taking your time to help me :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8 + 12 > 19 and 8 + 19 > 12 and 12 + 19 > 8 So, that's why your choice A is right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, you are understanding this well now.

OpenStudy (aperez):

Thank you Again. and Kind of.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol It just takes time, Mull it over and you'll get it even better! :-)
