7y = y - 42 7y - (1)y = - 42 *subtract the y on both sides 6y = - 42 *solve 7y - (1)y y= -7 *divide the 6 on both sides to fully solve for y i hope this helps!

7y - y = -42 6y = -42 y = -42/6 y = -7
subtract the y on to the 7y so now it shouls be 6y=-42. now just divide 6 on both sides and now you get y=-7 :)
