Find two positive numbers that satisfy the requirements: The sum of the first and twice the second is 100 and the product is a maximum. My equations I got from that are: x+y=100 xy=P I solved for x, but that just leaves me with P=50.

You must end up with x=50, not P=50

Do it again. And tell me if you still get it wrong.

x=50 wouldn't do any good, I need to find the derivative of xy=P
