What are the advantages of expressing the equation of a parabola in focus-directrix form?

OpenStudy (helder_edwin):

u have all the critical informatio right at hand.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hmm...You get to know the focus, and the directrix right away. Seems neat. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And besides, you can avoid the confusion when the parabola's been transformed. i.e rotated, translated, that sort of nasty stuff my math teacher like to do.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

My professor wanted an answer for this, i accidentally skipped over it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you could give an "official" answer, what would it be kind and nice @Shadowys ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lol You could say that: It allows you to know the focus and directrix of a parabola right away.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you!
