What was the goal of the Dawes Act? provide funding for "Indian schools" assimilate Native Americans into the dominant culture force Native Americans out of Georgia into western lands provide Native Americans with protected land in reservations
Obstensibly, the Dawes Act was to give the Native peoples their own lands. To register they had to change their names to an English one. What really happened was that there was so much corruption in the program that the Indians lost millions of acres of lands. Agents would register names of their friends who would then take possession of the land does that help?
Was in an effort to make assimilation the officials government policy, the aim was to "Americanize" the Native Americans , cultivating in them the desire to own property and to farm. or that?
