we know that sound is wave which need medium for its propagation and light is also a kind of wave but it do not need any medium for its propagation why?
becoz light is an electromagnetic wave:)
@akthakur
it is a form of energy and has both electric and magnetic field components, which stand in a fixed ratio of intensity to each other, and which oscillate in phase perpendicular to each other and perpendicular to the direction of energy and wave propagation. and fields DON'T REQUIRE MEDIUM:)
what kind of energy sound carry?
sound energy:)
HOW DO U DEFINE ENERGY OR ENERGY WAVE SOUND CARRIES MECHANICAL ENERGY
A sound wave contains sound energy, a form of kinetic energy in which the molecules of a substance are vibrated to create a noise.
SO WHAT IS IT IT IS TOO A FORM OF MECHANICAL ENERGY .!
cool. one last question . what kind of wave sound carry like we say that light carry electric and magnetic wave ?
@thinker1 r u askng from me????????
yeah
SOUND TRAVELLS BY COMPRESSION AND RAREFACTION OF THE MEDIUM
@Aperogalics NO JUST DISCUSSING
k then discuss..........lol :)

one mins guys. i mean like we say that light carry electric and magnetic wave which make it no need of medium. then what kind of wave sound carry which make it necessary for it propagation?
@akthakur sound is a phenomenon of rarefaction and compression actually in EM waves these field help the wave to propagate as field doesn't require medium it also doesn't while sound wave means a disturbance in a molecule to displace from it's mean position and if there is no medium then it just vibrating and vibrating but doesn't travel while in medium it displaces its nearby particle and create such compression and rarefaction....huhu fine:)
cool. thanx bro
@akthakur medal:)
medal i dont understand
@akthakur just click on best response:)
@Aperogalics When you write: "A sound wave contains sound energy, a form of kinetic energy in which the molecules of a substance are vibrated to create a noise." I do not fully agree with the above. The right answer is: mechanical energy ie a MIXTURE of kinetic AND potential energy. Actually, the ratio is one to one. The air vibrates => has kinetic energy The air is compressible => has elastic potential energy All mechanical propagations include both types of energies that interchange in time at every point in the medium.
@Vincent-Lyon.Fr i agree with u but not completely u wrote All mechanical propagations include both types of energies that interchange in time at every point in the medium. actually it is not limited to mechanical propgations:) well still appreciated :)
What I meant was: Travelling mechanical waves carry a 1:1 ratio of kinetic energy and a form of elastic potential energy. Travelling EM waves carry a 1:1 ratio of electric energy and magnetic energy.
Electromagnetic radiation is not a wave. It just has wave-like properties, like the electron, and for the same reasons. It's best to think of electromagnetic radiation as a peculiar kind of substance that has zero rest mass (and therefore which travels always at the speed of light). It has both particle and wave properties, all of which, except for rest mass, are quite similar to the particle and wave properties of ordinary matter. You don't ask why an electron beam well-described by a plane wave doesn't need a medium, right? Same thing with a light beam. A sound wave is an entirely different beast, a collective excitation that itself has no actual existence. There is, at bottom, no such thing as a "sound wave" -- that is just our perception of, and name for, the collective organized motion of the very many atoms and molecules that are moving in the medium.
@carl_Pham he is talking about wave nature of EM radiation then y to talk about whole thing?????????
