Question

i was wondering about this.......if a computer uses it's clock to update it's time........nd it updates time from the internet at regular intervals........um wat if these are not possible say....ther's no provision for internet and it is switched off......how does this thing know what time it is?

when the pc is switched off its internal clock remains active as it has its own energy supply.(a battery).

It continues the time from when you disconnect and runs off the internal battery.

it's not bios , it's cmos battery responsible for running internal clock even if system is off.

i wasnt sure myself but i found this on a forum:

The battery is using its charge while the pc is off,but when the pc is on battery is not being used so it should last for a long time. If you leave your pc off for a long time it means that the battery will last less.

There is a small battery (like a circle), it's responsible for letting the clock works either the PC is on or off.
