Ill attach a digram! And I give medals and fan, please help me :) 2. What is GH? (1 point) 5 10 15 25 3. What is the value of y? (1 point) 2 4 16 20
The are saying that segment GH equals segment GI they also say GH is 5x-10 and GI is 3x I would set up an equation , solve for x, and then use x to find 5x-10 (which is the length of GH)
Use the same idea to find y. (note by similar triangles, the two angles at the bottom are congruent, and the mark shows the left and middle angles are congruent.)
Yup segment GH and IG are equal. So you can write an equation for that and solve for x.
so 5x-10 = 3x and I work this out to get GH?
Yes
x = 5?
Not GH that is the value of x. Note: GH=5x-10. Substitute the value for x in the equation and simplify. yes x=5
So is it 15?
Yes GH=15
Now the 2 angles are congruent (i.e similar). Therefore, they are equal to each other. Create an equation from 10y and 8y+4
Are those two equations equal? The 10y and 8y+4?
Yes they are. From that statement you should be able to create an equation and solve for y
y = 2?
Yes, good job
Thanks! Now could you help me with a little more? I need to find the measure of DBE.
You can find the value for the two angles by substituting y=2 in the equation for one of the angles.
What would the equation be? The picture confuses me.
I can substitute the x's or y's in.
Angle DBE is the sum of angles 10y and 8y+4. So find the angle by replacing y in each expression with 2 and compute.
So its 40?
Yes it is
Thank you!
Sure no problem.
