The heart is essential for your survival! Your heart is constantly working, even when you are resting. The heart, blood and blood vessels together make up the circulatory system. The heart pumps the blood through the blood vessels to all the different tissues of the body. This blood carries water, oxygen and nutrients. Blood is also important for removing waste products from the body. The heart sits between the lungs in the chest, where it is well-protected by the rib cage. The heart is the most important organ in our body. It is basically a complex pump, responsible for circulating blood, oxygen and nutrients around the body.
