Edward R. Murrow's radio broadcasts often began with descriptions of the scenes around him. Why did he do this? Radio regulations required him to broadcast this way. He liked to start with one style and end with another. This was his signature effect that no other journalist had. It helped audiences to visualize what was taking place.
