How did the Columbian Exchange affect the future economic model of the Americas? The new crops brought from the Americas became its only real source of revenue. The Americas were used as plantations for the crops brought from Europe. The decimation brought on by European diseases made the Americas a wasteland. The re-introduction of the horse led to the use of the Americas as a breeding ground.
