What are the approximate solutions of 4x2 + 3 = −12x to the nearest hundredth? x ≈ −3.23 and x ≈ 0.23 x ≈ −2.72 and x ≈ −0.28 x ≈ 0.28 and x ≈ 2.72 x ≈ −0.23 and x ≈ 3.23

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

The Quadratic Equation will lead you there.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, can you show me how to do that?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Have you seen the Quadratic Formula?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, yeah! But...

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Okay, now rewrite the equation so it looks right: \(4x^{2}+12x+3 = 0\)

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Note: I can see immediately that there is no Positive, Real solution. This eliminates all but one possible answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's ok, I got the answer. :)
