(4+3i)+(-1-6i) = 4+3i-1-6i
Simplify by combining like terms: what do u get?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
I got 5+9i
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Remember:
(-)(+) =-
(+)(-)=-
(-)(-)=+
OpenStudy (anonymous):
is my answer corect
OpenStudy (anonymous):
correct*

4-1+3i-6i=
If you simplify this I dont get ur answer
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so its 3-3i
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes it is.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
wait I don't understand that
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ohhhh now I see

i got confused because in other equations you do the opposite for the other side but these are on the same side so i see now
OpenStudy (anonymous):
good deal. do u have any other questions?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i have a graph i don't understand
OpenStudy (anonymous):
its sideways but can you understand it?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
its not sideways, my bad lol

yea it is not sideways
OpenStudy (anonymous):
but when i took the pic it was
OpenStudy (anonymous):
@philo1234
OpenStudy (anonymous):
The answer is (a).
But let's walk thru it an see how I got that answer
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok

Can you look at the graph and find the x-intercepts?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
would that be the vertex?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
or axis of symmetry
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Nope where the graph crosses the x axis what is the x-value there
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok so its (-3,0) and (2.5,0)

Good. Now x=-3 and x=5/2 is a solution for the function, where we made f(x)=0.
Let us find the 2 factors:
So, we have: x=-3, add 3 to both sides to get the factor.
x=5/2, multiply both sides by 2 to get rid of the denominator, then subtract
5 from both sides
Do u follow so far?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes
OpenStudy (anonymous):
So what factors did u get?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Are u having problems finding the factors?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes, im having trouble

x=-3, add 3 to both sides to get the factor. Factor is (x+3)
x=5/2, multiply by 2 on both side to get rid of the 2 in the denominator 2x=5, then
subtract 5 from both sides. Factor:(2x-5)
So now we have: (x+3)(2x-5)>=0
OpenStudy (anonymous):
oh ok, i see now
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i was trying to solve the eq. i know how to find the factors
OpenStudy (anonymous):
So all you need to do is foil multiplication. It is >= b/c the graph is open upwards
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Any other questions?
