An analogy is something that compares two objects together with another object that is different. My best friend is to me what peanut butter is to jelly. While my friend and I are not really peanut butter and jelly or even similar to peanut butter and jelly. The analogy proves that we go well together like putting peanut butter and jelly together on a sandwich goes together.

An example of an idiom would be blood is thicker than water. While blood literally is thicker than water the true meaning of this idiom is that family means more than anyone else. You would consider your familial relationships more important to you than your friendships. Just as well you would find your family more important than your boyfriend or your duty to work.
