The 1773 Tea Act A. raised import duties on tea and thereby caused the cost of tea to skyrocket. B. granted the British East India Company a monopoly on all tea sold in the colonies, thereby permitting the company to raise tea prices across the board. C. removed additional import duties on tea and, as a result, significantly lowered the price of tea in the colonies. D. prohibited the consumption of any tea that had not been shipped in British vessels. E. ended all tea monopolies, thereby opening up competition and putting American smugglers out of business.
