Problem 5 A square picture is mounted in a frame 2cm wide. The area of the picture is 3/5 of the total area. Find the length of a side of the picture. if someone could show me how they did the work. that would be lifsaving if someone could teach me how to do this it would be lifesaving!

s^2 = (3/5)(s + 4)^2

The "+ 4" is from 2 cm on each side, making the frame side 4 cm longer than the picture.

This will become a quadratic equation with "s" as the variable.

s^2 = (3/5)(s + 4)^2 -> s^2 = (3/5)(s^2 + 8s + 16) Put all terms on one side and set to 0 and solve for "s". The equation is a parabola opening upwards.
