The equation is in vertex form y=a(x-h)^2+k, where h,k is the vertex.

If it said -4(x + 6)^2 + 2?, then the vertex would be (-6,2). That means you are going left 6 units. In the equation that you posted:y = -4(x - 6)^2 + 2, you are going right 6 units. You pretty much do the opposite of what the sign is. If it's negative, you go right, if it's positive, you go left.
